When you think of French Toast, do you think easy and healthy? Because you should! This French Toast recipe is the easiest there is! It’s on of my favorite 10-minute breakfast recipes that isn’t just quick but it’s easy enough to make every morning before work and light enough to incorporate into your daily life. I used to eat this meal for breakfast five out of seven days of the week… I was a bit obsessed. Somehow, I still love it! That’s when you know a meal is good, when you never get sick of it. What I love most about this recipe is that it is so versatile! You can add any toppings and have an entirely different breakfast every day of the week.
How does French Toast get its name?
Contrary to popular belief, French Toast does not originate from France but rather England. The name actually dates back as far as 17th Century and was brought to American by settlers. The French call this dish “Pain Perdu” or “Lost Bread”. The term “lost bread” comes from using stale bread to make French Toast that would otherwise be thrown out. Interestingly enough, this dish is now called “Eggy Bread” in England rather than French Toast.
French Toast Topping Ideas:
There are endless possibilities but here are a few of my favorites:
- Fresh berries
- Sauteed berries made into a homemade jam
- Sautéed apples
- Chocolate chips
- Maple syrup
- Toasted nuts
- Nut butter
Different Ways To Cook Your Breakfast:
- Stove top – this is the most common way to cook this recipe.
- Oven – you can also cook this recipe in a baking dish in the oven!
Personally, I prefer to cook this on the stove top in a frying pan but if you plan to make this recipe for a good amount of people, cooking it in the oven may save you time! You can serve on individual plates OR you can display your slices on a platter covered in your toppings of choice if you’re going for a more photogenic display. When serving, give your guests a choice of toppings. Display your toppings in small ceramics on your platter and you’re got yourself an Instagram photo!
